WHAT IS A DIGITAL DESIGN COACH?
Design Coaches are the mentors and cheerleaders of each team. They are the “camp counselors” of the program—ensuring that each student has a positive, memorable experience. Design Coaches are essential in facilitating student collaboration and creativity. It’s important to know how to engage the students, and how to coach them in a way that allows them room to ideate, experiment, fail and ultimately succeed on their own. Skills in communication, time management, problem-solving and group facilitation will be essential in providing students with the most educational and fun experience.
Since we are digital this year, coaches with UX/UI design experience are desired, as well as those with experience in app development, either with languages like Swift, React Native, or Objective C, or in a no or low code environment like Adalo or Bubble. Those with experience leading in online classroom environments are welcome as well.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD DESIGN COACH
Design the Future Coaches are "makers"
With digital design and/or developer skills.
They are passionate about social impact and empowering high school students
With the mindsets and skills to create solutions to everyday challenges in society.
They are relationship-minded leaders
Adept at collaboration, guiding others to challenge themselves and think “outside the box”
WHAT TO EXPECT AS A DESIGN COACH
Each coach is matched with a team of 4-5 high school students, and he or she works with students throughout the 2-week program, guiding them through their prototyping, team building, and learning processes. Coaches will teach modules and ensure their teams have everything they need to have the most educational and effective Design the Future experience possible. A Design Lead Facilitator and Tech Lead Facilitator will also be hired to mentor students, teach modules, and guide the coaching team.
Coaches will participate in a two-day training before the start of the program, as well as a pre-program check in. During the program, they will also be responsible for supplementary coordination with the team’s Project Partner as well as some logistics work, and ensuring everything is set up for the following day.
